Tanury Industries Is One Of Top Finishing Shops In U.S.

Products Finishing magazine names Tanury Industries to the ‘Top Shops” list

Cincinnati, Ohio – Tanury Industries has been named one of the best finishing shops in the U.S., according to an industry benchmarking survey conducted by Products Finishing magazine, a trade publication which has covered the industry since 1936.

The magazine conducted an extensive benchmarking survey that analyzed a company in several different areas, including Current Finishing Technology, Finishing Practices and Performances, Business Strategies and Performances, and Training and Human Resources.

Only the top 50 shops were given the honor of being a Products Finishing magazine ‘Top Shop’ based on a scoring matrix of those four criteria.

“Tanury Industries has established itself as one of the best finishing operations in the industry,” said Tim Pennington, editor of Products Finishing magazine. “The criteria we used was very stringent, and only the finishing shops that excelled in all four areas made the list. Tanury Industries is in rare air when it comes to finishing operations.”

Tanury Industries is located at 6 New England Way in Lincoln, RI, and offers:

  • Heavy Gold Electroplating
  • Chrome Plating
  • Plating on Plastics

“We are very excited and pleased to be named one of Products Finishing magazine’s ‘Top Shops’,” said Michael Akkaoui, President & CEO of Tanury Industries “Our employees and management team have worked very hard to be the best in the industry, and to provide our customers with quality service.”

Tanury Industries Awarded Workplace Development & Productivity Award at the 2017 Providence Business News Manufacturing Awards

Lincoln, RI March 30th, 2017: Providence Business News presented Tanury Industries with the Workplace Development & Productivity award among large manufacturers (150+ employees) at the annual PBN Manufacturing Awards on March 30th, 2017.

This is the second year in a row Tanury Industries has won a manufacturing award from PBN; last year winning in Overall Excellence. Tanury was founded in 1946 by Mr. Frederick M. Tanury and his three brothers. Starting with just ten employees, Tanury has grown to over 210 employees, servicing nearly 400 orders daily and 1000 customers worldwide.

“The PBN Manufacturing Awards encompass many different industries and help create a culture of excellence across Rhode Island businesses,” said Michael Akkaoui, President & CEO. “We are excited and honored to have been recognized by PBN again this year and will continue to support and help grow other local Rhode Island Businesses.”

The implementation of Tanury’s new leadership training program led to their selection for the Workplace Development & Productivity Award. The program, titled, the “Leadership Mentor Program,” is meant to help develop and train middle management employees in leadership and problem solving skills. For the inaugural program, 28 staff members were selected and split into two teams. Working side by side with executives for six weeks, the management employees learned from their mentors and honed their skills in team building exercises, leadership education, presentation skills development, and group decisions. This program bridged the gap between middle management and the executive team, creating a space where skills and people can be developed.

Going forward, Tanury will continue the program and focus on lean manufacturing. The program will be limited to 24 invited staff members and the selected participants will receive formal training from Rhode Island Manufacturing Extension Services, Inc. in facilitator skills development.

Our goal is to integrate the Leadership Mentor Program and the Lean Manufacturing Program to build real-time problem solving skills and develop facilitation skills deeper within the organization,” said Paula Frias, Director of Marketing.

Tanury is dedicated to continuing to improve the processes and training of their employees, specifically through the Leadership Mentor Program. By improving employees overall skill-sets and their management abilities, they can be given more responsibility and can take on a larger role within Tanury Industries.

Tanury Industries Celebrates Successful Employee Leadership Mentor Program

Lincoln, RI February 13, 2017: At the end of the year Tanury Industries celebrated the success of their new Leadership Mentor Program with a special dinner. The gathering recognized the accomplishments of the 28 program participants from Tanury’s middle management staff, who worked alongside Tanury’s executive team to identify improvements for Tanury’s processes & policies and systems. The program provided employees the opportunity to gain leadership experience while increasing their knowledge and critical thinking skills in the context of the manufacturing industry. “This was a great time for all of us to come together to celebrate the success and growth of all the individuals who participated in the Leadership Mentor Program,” said Michael Akkaoui, President and CEO of Tanury Industries.

During the course of the program, participants met weekly with their mentors from the executive management team for group discussions, team building exercises, and leadership education. They also attended four off-premises workshops. Following completion of the program, the solutions the teams identified were incorporated into Tanury’s Operations Plan for 2017.

Tanury plans to continue the program in 2017 in collaboration with their Lean Manufacturing Program. This year employees will receive formal training from the Rhode Island Manufacturing Extension Services, Inc. in facilitator skills development.  Following the training, participants will be strategically placed on 8 active teams at Tanury Industries. “Our goal is to integrate the Leadership Mentor Program and the Lean Manufacturing program to build real time problem solving skills and develop facilitation skills deeper within the organization,” said Paula Frias, Director of Marketing.

Tanury Industries Introduces Leadership Mentor Program for Employees

Lincoln, RI (August 4, 2016):  On June 25th, Tanury Industries launched a new employee development initiative called the Leadership Mentor Program. The program provides employees with the opportunity to gain leadership experience and to expand their knowledge and critical thinking ability in the manufacturing industry.

The Leadership Mentor Program was initiated by Tanury’s executive management team as a volunteer-by-invitation based program. There was an overwhelmingly positive response with over 30 employees accepting the opportunity to participate in the curriculum through the end of 2016. “Management feels that these individuals excel in their positions and wants to provide them more opportunities to learn and grow within the industry,” said Paula Frias, Director of Marketing.

Overseen by Michael Akkaoui, President and CEO of Tanury Industries, the program participants have been divided into two separate teams focusing on Policy & Systems and Process. Each team is led by mentors from Tanury’s executive staff including Joseph Accaoui, EVP of Operations; Pat Lynch, VP of Sales; Rob Corcoran, VP of Finance; Jim DiNunzio, VP of Administration; and Ron Guilmain, Director of Quality/Engineering. All participants have the opportunity to engage with and learn from their mentors while working on solving real life challenges in their area of focus. The teams meet once a week with their mentors, who facilitate group discussions and team building exercises.

The initiative has bridged a gap between the executive team and the employees, creating space for the development of ideas and people. “It’s exciting to see our employees passionately develop solutions that will not only benefit the company, but provide enhanced leadership training to the individual. We hope this program encourages employees to think with a leadership mindset in their daily roles,” said Michael Akkaoui.
